Over the years, Amazon has expanded its product portfolio from books to absolutely everything and its no surprise that almost half the products sold on Amazon are Books (44.2M).
Electronics is the second largest category in Amazon with 10.1M products listed. This is followed by Home & Kitchen (6.6M) and Digital Music (6M).
Amazon dominates the eCommerce business
Amazon has been aggressively increasing their private label brand to compete with the likes of Kroger KR 32.0 0.0 -0.1% and Walmart WMT 122.6 -1.1 -0.9%. In addition, they control Whole Foods stores are expanding their Amazon ecosystem as well with categories such as Amazon Storefronts, Launchpad, Handmade and Exclusive which have more than a million products listed.
Top 10 Alexa Skills
Amazon has utilized voice search capabilities through its personalized Alexa skills. It now dominates the voice-enabled speaker market with 93K Alexa Skills in 65 different subcategories. The Alexa Skills store is growing at a fast pace with an increase of 63K skills since January 2018. The following bar chart shows the top 10 Alexa skills in each subcategory.
Knowledge & Trivia has the highest number of skills (11.1K). Games & Trivia comes second in line with 10K skills.
Voice Search and it’s future
Voice search has become the go-to search mode for consumers everywhere and is on the rise with Google and Apple joining the race with their smart speakers – Home and HomePod respectively. It is expected that half of all online searches will be made through voice search by 2020.
