Electric Pickup Truck Market
Last month, Tesla unveiled Cybertruck which would become its first electric pickup truck. An attempt to increase their market share as pickup trucks currently make up 15% of vehicle sales in the U.S. Following the launch, Elon Musk shared a video which showed a Cybertruck pulling a Ford F-150 (one of the top-selling pickup truck models in the U.S.) uphill. Ford, the market leader in pickup trucks, has disputed the video and challenged for a rematch.
The company announced an electric version of its F-150 in January 2019 but Tesla’s truck might be more powerful. However, Ford has a better market reach compared to Tesla with 3,040 dealerships across the U.S. As more competitors enter the market, electric vehicle sales will naturally increase since customers are more likely to find an electric car that fits their basic needs and tastes.
